It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
In the teaser shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
